Abstract

This study aims to describe the managerial competencies of the madrasah principal, teacher performance, and the managerial competencies of the madrasah principal in improving teacher performance at MTs Hidayatul Hikmah, Bunga Tanjung Village, Betara District. This research employs a qualitative approach with field research as the type of study. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and data triangulation to ensure the validity of the findings. The results showed that the madrasah principal has implemented four functions of managerial competence, namely: planning work programs through collective meetings with staff, organizing by creating a clear organizational structure, implementing work programs according to plan, and supervising teacher performance directly every six months and indirectly without prior notice. Teacher performance has been carried out well across three main indicators: the ability to plan learning through the preparation of syllabi and lesson plans, the ability to implement learning with good mastery of material and classroom management although the lecture method remains dominant, and the ability to conduct learning evaluation through assignment-giving and periodic assessments. The madrasah principal's efforts to improve teacher performance include involving teachers as members of the Madrasah Working Group (KKM), encouraging teachers to participate in the Free Test of the Teacher Professional Education program (PPG), and providing full support to teachers pursuing further education at the master's level (S2). This study recommends the need to develop more structured internal programs for improving teacher performance as well as increasing the frequency and systematic nature of supervision
